Pirates and Christmas

Pirates and Christmas

I took my sister out for a lovely pre-Christmas evening on the town. We hit up the Aquarium to check out my work on the Festival of Trees, and she enjoyed her very own private tour. Then we went to see the new Pirate's Voyage Dinner Theater Christmas Show.

They start with a pre-show in their gallery. Of course, there is bar service and a gift shop to check out, but if, like me, you just want to sit and enjoy, they have a wonderful gallery where the pre-performance starts with songs, dancing, and some acrobatics. Nothing too awe-inspiring, of course; just enough to whet your whistle.

From here, you move into the show room itself. It is set up as though two pirate ships have docked and the subsequent story line involves some kind of competition between the two groups. I saw this during the summer and it was wonderful- a sort of campy Cirque Du Soleil, if you will. The Christmas show had an extra Dickensian touch to it and even managed to work in a nativity scene!

The food is very good. Now, it is all the same for everyone, but they do give you a doggy bag if you need it. It includes soup, bread, two meats and two sides, plus a dessert. Considering that it is a mass preparation, rather like your high school cafeteria, it is really pretty tasty...so, not at all like your high school cafeteria!

But it is the sheer athleticism of the performers that always leaves me in awe. How someone can throw their body around and it will actually do what they wanted it to do, in comparison with mine which I can barely get to walk sometimes, just amazes me! They sing- pre-recorded, but still lovely-, they dance, and they do incredible dives and stunts. Plus, they work with animals! The dog was supposed to dive after a ball but decided against it!

All in all, it is a fun, family-friendly time and I highly recommend it!
