Sunset Beach, NC

My lovely sister let me stay at her place in Calabash which is only about 5 miles from Sunset Beach. Sunset Beach, for those not familiar, is north of Myrtle Beach and a little slice of heaven. It's a bedroom community, so traffic is minimal, tourism is quiet and understated and this time of year, parking to get to the beach is pure bliss!
Let me say-I LOVE the beach. Yes, I am one of those people! There is something so relaxing about sitting in soft sand, listening to the soothing sound of waves (and yes, I am a white noise aficionado as well!), and contemplating the nature and beauty of life.
To a beach naysayer, every day on the beach may all seem the same, but to a beach lover, the subtle light changes, the sand shifts, the wave lengths- it's all a special kind of music that changes minute by minute. It makes me feel like this:
Little Dog....umm...Little Dog would fall into the camp of beach naysayers.
Going to the beach made him feel like this:
That is the picture of a dog seriously wondering where he went wrong in life. Now, he does love people, so sometimes he would perk up and look like this:
But then the excitement would pass and he would be back to not-so-subtle ennui...
Nothing says "Can we go now?" like plopping against my hip and looking longingly at the boardwalk out! So, I would give up my quiet contemplation of life, the universe, and all that jazz to walk him around a bit and slowly, he grew a little fonder of the water.
And his boredom grew a little less baleful...
And that made me feel a little happier, because, again, dog ownership is 90% guilt and if he isn't happy, I can't be happy...
And then we would leave, and he would be very happy!
So, the moral of the story is that I got to enjoy the beach, I got Clifford to enjoy the beach...ish...and even my cheap camera phones takes some pretty pictures when the locations is right! And that is why I have made this area my home! Enjoy!
