This election promises to be a big one, so I thought it would be nice to avoid long lines on Election Day and try Early Voting this year. Fortunately, North Carolina has a very helpful website that not only gives hours and locations for early voting but can also show you approximate wait times. So, with the closest place to me showing a less than 30-minute wait time, I headed off to do my civic duty.
When I got there, parking was a hot mess. It was at a community center that never expected to have more than 10 cars at a time and so people were parking along the street far enough away to make it look like a street fair had come to town. I decided to get to the parking lot at the building though, as many times, people give up and park further away than they truly need to. I pulled into the parking lot and while there were some spots available, I turned my happy self around and left, because the line...was out...the door! This was exactly the sort of thing I was hoping to avoid and since that helpful website had told me that my next closest location, about 10 miles away, had a 2-minute wait time, I decided a 15 minute drive out of my way was a better use of time!
So off I head to the second location and when I got there, although there were still plenty of people around, I got front row parking, I got checked in, picked up my ballot, filled it in, and then scanned it into the secure machine and was out the door in about 15 minutes! It was a lovely experience! So, if you hate lines, don't despair! There might be better options out there if you let your fingers do the walking (shout out to anyone from the 80's who know what I am referencing! LOL!)
And yes, I did get my I Voted sticker...odd as it was...and yes, Clifford was jealous he did not get to go!
