What's for breakfast?

True confessions- breakfast is not my favorite meal of the day. It's not that I don't enjoy breakfast foods- bagels, pancakes, omelets- all yummy stuff. It's just that I am not a morning person and even though I am usually hungry when I wake up, I am not usually awake enough to do actual food! However, my sisters are very fond of a good breakfast out, so in honor of possibly needing to humor guests, I decided to try breakfast today.
I went to Matthew's Pancake House in Little River. It's got a horrible parking lot, and the inside has that quaint/run down feel of a good old-fashioned dinner- you know the kind, where you can feel the springs in the booths when you sit down? But guess what?
The food was amazing! I started with the beignets, because while I love nothing more than yeast and sugar, I knew I wanted to try an actual meal, so these were just the appetizer. You can do that with other meals, why not breakfast? Anyway, yes, they were fantastic. Fluffy and sweet with a side of raspberry sauce that had just a bit of kick to it- yummy! Then came the meal...
Croissant French Toast! Now, to be fair, I did not enjoy this as much as I did the beignets, but the strawberries and creme anglaise sauce elevated this dish to a new place that was not bad at all! Plus, with the eggs and sausage that came with it, I walked out of there with enough leftovers to get me through two more breakfasts, easily!
So, for ambiance, it was only so-so, but for quality and variety, I would 100% recommend Matthew's!
And since I think everyone needs to see how cute my fur babies are, here is a picture of my kitten watching tv entirely too closely! Enjoy!
