Whiskey Dix

I love music. I love dancing. I love going to Whiskey Dix EVEN THOUGH...I really can't dance to their music! LOL!

A friend started inviting me to Whiskey Dix with a few of her friends every month, and I go as often as possible, but here's the thing- it's line dancing. Line dancing is this incredible phenomena wherein a song starts playing and everyone in the bar hops on the dance floor and starts doing the same moves- it's a flash mob that started long before flash mobs were cool. I have tried all my life to learn line dancing. I bought the VHS tapes back in the 90's- yes, I am that old. I have even taken dance classes to learn the moves. And ever since I started going to Whiskey Dix, I have tried to pick up the moves on youtube. But here's the nasty little trick to line dancing- somehow, you either know it or you don't. It's kinda like parkour- I can throw myself at a wall and will promptly fall and bruise and/or break something. Someone else can throw themselves at a wall and lo and behold! They take off like friggin' spiderman!

Now, I did master the Cupid Shuffle and Electric Slide, but it seems like every new song that comes out has its own dance, so you can never really stay ahead of the line dancing curve. And if you look at the people on the floor, there are quite a few of them (especially as the drunk to sober ratio swings more wildly to the drunk side) who don't actually know the dance but are staring intently at the feet around them, hoping against hope to pick up on it before the song ends. Some will...some won't. Which is ultimately the best thing about line dancing- you may never master every song, every time, but if you can find a dark enough corner so that people aren't tripping on you, you can sure have fun trying! So I go to Whiskey Dix. I listen to the music (no other genre is as good at using music to tell stories as country. Prove me wrong!). I sip my beer (they give you a free one if you get there before 9!). I move my feet trying to mimic what I see on the floor. And every once in a while....if I'm lucky...they play the electric slide!

Oh- and as an added note: we met at BJ's for dinner beforehand and...I kid you not..I had the pizookie flight as my dinner. Best. Dinner. Ever! Warm skillet cookie covered with ice cream and sauce- yes, please!
